Warm, woolen mittens...

Since today is the day that we should make sure to give thanks for the those things that we appreciate in our life, I decided to post about a few of those things.  I love my family - both my neices and nephews. I am thankful for chocolate and pecan pie. I am thankful for football, not Dallas football, but football in general!  I couldn't show everything, but other things I am thankful for:

friends
music
my camera
my job
love
stuffing
mash potatoes and gravy
sweet potato souffle

I hope that everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving and their family!

Oh, Sweetheart...

In case you've never seen love - here are four pictures for you! I'm not sure why its taken me so long to get these kids in front of my lens. I've watched them grow into some very cool kids. This was a really fun shoot because I know how to make them laugh.  I tell their mama that I think I'm like catnip to them.  They get so wild around me.  But I tell you I wouldn't have it any other way.

Not one, but two amazing bros...

These boys were amazing to shoot. They definitely knew how to pose! Which they get honestly from their father, who gave me the blue steel look.  This day was fun because it was my first time shooting a family.  Thank God the family had patience and understood that I am still a rookie at this whole photography thing.  Anyways - I think this family is the bomb.  The boys definitely made it a great time, plus they were easy to shoot because they are gorgeous. Enjoy!

Hey doesn't the younger one look so punk rock in his individual picture. God save the Queen!

Swing Out Sista!

There's no reason that taking pictures of kids should be this fun! I had these girls for a whole weekend, so I decided to take advantage of it and use them as my subjects - they were more than willing to lend a hand.  Plus, what parent doesn't love pictures of their kids?

Anyways, I've known these girls for years.  It makes me happy and sad to see how much they've grown up, but I love to see that they still know how to have fun.  I even took picture of the little one throwing a fist at the older one.  Luckily she was only playing!

Good Morning!

Just FYI, it's easy to lose your way. The hard part is finding your way back, but when you do...Kanye West always says it the best.  ♥ l-scott

fresh since '77

Let me tell you where this post is coming from...Last week a friend and I wnet to Richmond to see Matt and Kim in concert. It was my birthday gift and a welcomed break from the my day-to-day life.  The concert was beast! As you may have guessed, the band consists of two people -- MATT AND KIM!  The only two instruments they play are the drums and the keyboard...nice! Anyways, they played a lot of old school jams like ODB "Shimmy shimmy ya" and Biz Markie "Just a Friend."  Okay - so here is the kicker...I looked over at my friend and she wasn't singing any of the lyrics to the Biz Markie song. Who doesn't know those lyrics? I know you are singing them right now.  This made me think about all of the music that I may know that others don't know.  So I decided to drop a couple of nuggets on you guys - get your pencils ready:

Biz Markie - Just a Friend
A Tribe Called Quest - I Left My Wallet in El Segundo
Roots - Silent Treatment
Beastie Boys - Paul Revere
Wu-Tang - C.R.E.A.M.
Tribe Called Quest- Bonita Applebaum (updated on the advice of my bro!)
Kanye West - Good Life

Put those in your Ipod and play 'em!

Bag Lady...

Not that I ever wanted to do product placement, but I love my new camera bag.  I have to admit that it still doesn't help me to carry my camera everywhere, but when I do want to carry my camera it makes it a hell of a lot easier.  So, I bought this bag off of ebay.  I was able to select the fabric that the flap is made from.  I was so excited when it came, only because I love opening gifts.  Who doesn't? Anyways, I love, love, love this bag. Don't be jealous!

Who likes cake?

Yes - it's homemade!

Love the butter in the back. Makes the shot!

Imagine being the child of a creative spirit, and then trying to be that creative too.  You can't do what your parent does or else you will constantly have to live in their shadow.  So you venture out into something that could actually make you some dough.  Well this is what I had to do! I am attempting to become a great photographer to embody some of that creativeness my mother has. She makes cakes. She, too, is in the process of growing her business. I have admit this cake she made really surprised me. I could definitely see it being part of a cooking show.  I also think that it has inspired her to be more adventurous in her cake decorations.  Nevermind the design, in my opinion it's her homemade icing that makes her cakes. You should try some - go 'head just lick the screen. (BTW, you're a fool!) Here are some pictures of the 16th birthday cake. Just FYI - it wasn't finished when I took these pictures.

logoliscious

What ever you do, please don't look at how long it's been since I've last blogged. If you do, please know it's a testament to how busy I've been since August.  No excuse though for not picking up my camera.  I hate making resolutions to take more pictures. It always sounds so trite to me.  So I don't  know what I need to do to make sure that I am constantly picking up my camera.  I thought buying a brand new camera bag would do the trick, but it hasn't helped so far.  Just so I know I will post again soon, my next post will show off the fancy new camera bag that I just ordered. For anyone who needs one, you will definitely want to order from the same place I did.

Anyways, I love these pictures. This lady is great to shoot. Plus I was able to take the pictures at my favorite church in downtown Norfolk.  It gets great light.  I am tasked with taking these pictures for my favorite hairbow designer - Magpie! She is in my blog follow list, so please click on her and buy a bow.  I wear them all the time. Dopeness!

Also, I am trying out logos (as always).  Leave me a message and tell me what you think.

In West Philadelphia...actually it was South!

Beautiful doors in Philly! Just a few!
Last weekend I spent some time in Philadelphia. It was great! it was my first time in the city, and I'm sure that I will return soon. Though I'm not as excited by history as I think you should be when you visit Philly - I learned a lot from that weekend. You probably already know this information, but back in the day they sold fire insurance. To let people know that you had insurance on your house, they put a plaque on your house. If you house is on fire and you don't have that plaque they would just let the shit burn. Burn! Yeah, you just schooled - tell a friend!
My cousin's Remington Typewriter. So beautiful!
This is a shoe cleaner!
You guessed it - a fire hydrant!

Hey, I think they're talking to us...

This was a great photo shoot! This girl was hilarious and fun. I find it interesting when people know how to pose themselves - this chica definitely knew how to pose. Anyways, we took these pictures downtown. There are some great spots that get great light! These are some of my favorite pictures that I have taken. Hope you enjoy them too!

Art where? Everywhere!

The closing of art|everywhere was an amazing night! It included lots of busking and a Thriller Flashmob. Really - can anything beat that? I don't think so!

Art|Everywhere was an amazing event in itself! Norfolk artist submitted artwork that would be displayed up and down Granby Street in the windows of the abandoned buildings. It was something that I think Norfolk needed. There is so much interest in art in Norfolk that there needs to be an outlet for all of it. So Art|Everywhere was a pleasant surprise!

The closing was even better. It reminded me of a something that I would have seen in San Francisco or New York. I am so glad that I was able to take part in this. Hopefully, it will continue!

Random-Ass ish!

I love when days end up being totally random. I think when you look back on those random-ass days you realize those days are some of the best ones you've had. My random-ass day started out as usual, but ended up great! I began the day by sitting around my favorite coffeehouse working on some things for AltDaily. www.altdaily.com There was absolutley nothing going on that day until H. Serrano decided to join me. She needed me to take some pictures of the people who the magazine refers to as Norfologists. You should check out the website and pass along the address to anyone interested in moving to Norfolk. {www.norfology.com}

Anyways, I know that I am always taking pictures, but to actually do something semi-professinally just makes me nervous. I have a hard time putting myself out there for fear of too much criticism. I really wanted to say no, but I knew that I had to get past this fear somehow. So of course I did it!

Here goes the start of my random-ass Thursday!

So the first stop was to shoot the owner of the O'Connor's Brewery in Park Place. He, of course, wasn't there but his brewmaster was, so he gave us a tour of the brewery and poured us some beer. The beer was good! {www.oconnorbrewing.com} Definitely gets my stamp of approval! But the brewery was hot as hell, so we were quickly trying to bounce. After, we both wanted another drink and some eats so we hit up Pasha. Uh - yum! You have to try their smoked salmon bruschetta! Put that on your foursquare and eat it!

Lastly, we ended up at 37th and Zen, hanging out with Bradford and viewing some art. I can't remember the artists, but it was good. The day was eventful, random and fun! Oh yeah, we also got to shark!

Here are the pics of the brewery! You should try the beer - delish.

On to the educational part of the blog:

I haven't been listening to anything new, but I did discover a new photog blog! {www.coloroflifephotography.blogspot.com}
Beautiful hip-hop photography! Loves it!

On to the next...

Nothing much to say, I just wanted to post some pics of some kids I shot. I love these pictures. The first one isn't a perfect shot, but does get her personality. Enjoy!

Oh yeah, and I'm still working on my logo!

Thrill of Victory...

Let's talk about some victories over the past few weeks. 1) School's out for summer! 2) Finding the Joy 3) and a baseball victory. These three things have made June fun. Nothing brings more joy than a victory in baseball and summerbreak. My plan this summer is to take more pictures. I have been given the assignment of learning studio lighting. So that's next on my plate. Also, I need to buy a speedlight. But I do love shooting in natural light--these pictures show how fun it is.

These two pictures have the word "joy." on them because they are part of an online photography class that I am taking. Kelly McMahon Willette is giving an online class called "Finding the Joy" (www.willettedesigns.com/photographer-tools/workshops/finding-the-joy/) It's all about finding the joy in taking pictures of your own kids. Funny thing about it is I have no children, so I have to shoot orphans - JOKE! No, my friends are so willing to let me photograph their kids. (Uh-free photos!)

All of the photos in this post are from a baseball game where the Braves came back from a six run deficit to win! (Don't the Atlanta Braves wish they could do that?) During the last inning everyone was screaming and banging on the fence. I even found myself doing it! Too damn much for a little league baseball game -- but I couldn't help myself. BTW, these boys deserved it. Congratulations!

So no laughing allowed, but I am working on my logo! {l-scott photography} I want to add a pair of glasses to it. Let me know what you think! Oh yeah, I want to be able to change the color too. For now, I am going to use green (my favorite color.)

Just have to write a little something on this photograph. I love it! Her eyes, her arm, her hair are all perfect! Hope her momma loves it too!
FYI -
This is not a blog, but a website that I read often. (www.altdaily.com) Enjoy-I do!
No music suggestion for you this post. Just listen to my music player and pick one you like!

Cigarettes, Wedding Bands

So about two weekends ago I attended a wedding in Fairfax. It was beautiful, but definitely got me thinking about getting old. I think a good sign of how old you are getting is when many of your friends start to get married. I think 32 is about the age where people begin to settle down, but I wonder how many of my friends who married earlier in life wish that they would have waited.

So here are few pictures that I took at the wedding. I didn't know many people there, so I wanted to only take picture of the people I knew. Here are few!

Oh yeah, I asked the wedding photographer if I could take a picture of him after he takes a picture of us. He said, "I charge for that!" I need to remember that!

Okay, this boy is so fine! I love this picture. It's one of my favorite from the day. He knows how to take a good photo. Damn suspenders just add that certain something!

The picture above is of my friend. You can't see the color of his shirt and tie, but they are purple. This outfit was dope! I also wish that you could see the rest of his outfit - he had on black Express jeans with black Chucks! Major!!!

Love this picture of her. She too is one of my very best friends. I love getting good photos of my friends.

I have know this boys for about 15 years now and love him more than life! The above picture just represents a wedding for me. I think there are always last minute adjustments to the outfits worn. I think it's important to catch these moments at a wedding! Just like the one below.
How funny is it that they are standing just alike? This was the best man and one of the groom's men. These too are best friends, so I thought that it would be great to catch them doing something similar. Here it is! I just love this photo!

Just FYI
This week I've been listening to The Postal Service. That group is just simply amazing! Ben Gibbard is one of the best lyric writers I've listened to. Check out the song "Clark Gable." If you don't fall in love - you have no heart!
A blog that I found this week is www.wildchildphotography.com I love, love, love the colors that she uses. Beautiful photography!
